Fontal is a traditional cheese made in Italy with pasteurised cow's milk. It presents itself with a soft and compact paste and a sparse, almost absent perforation. Cheese with a delicate, buttery and melting flavour, optimally simple but ideal also in the kitchen, to melt or to flavour hot dishes.
Its production dates back to 1955, and over time this semi-hard cheese has become one of the most popular cheeses in Italian cuisine, to fill pizzas (e.g. 4 Formaggi), sandwiches or focaccias, or to add flavour to many preparations.
Fontal cheese is primarily a table cheese that is served with other cheeses and mixed cold cuts with hors d'oeuvres and aperitifs. Thanks to its delicate flavour, it goes very well with jam and honey. Its texture also makes it a stringy and delicious cheese when gratinated, which is why it is used to enrich many appetising recipes for first and second courses.
