The tomatoes San Marzano D.O.P. derived from a well-defined area, the Agro Sarnese-Nocerino and Acerrano-Nolano, the Pompeian-Stabiese region and a portion of the Montorese. This area comprises a total of 41 municipalities. 

It is only in this precisely defined area that the optimal conditions for growing this characteristic plant can be found. The Mediterranean climate and the particularly fertile soil due to volcanic residues are essential elements for the perfect ripening of San Marzano and the unique intensity of its taste.

Solania - producer for the popular San Marzano tomato  

The producer Solania has specialised in growing the popular DOP San Marzano tomato. Due to its special characteristics, this tomato is one of the most popular canned tomatoes of all.  

Solania tomatoes San Marzano dell'Agro Sarnese-Nocerino DOP - difficult to grow but delicious in taste   

There are only a few producers who take on the hurdles that come with growing the difficult San Marzano tomato. The Neapoletano family was one of the first to appreciate the deliciousness of the tomato variety and to specialise in its cultivation - under the name Solania. The family had already gained experience in growing and selling tomatoes for many years and finally decided in 1993 to take the step of selling peeled Pelati San Marzano tomatoes. Today, the farm is equipped with modern facilities for preserving the tomatoes. The freshly harvested tomatoes are allowed to cook gently in a water bath at low temperatures so that the unique flavour is not lost. In this way, products with an unadulterated aroma are produced, which are appreciated not only by gastronomes and gourmets all over the world.  

What distinguishes the Pelati San Marzano DOP?  

A characteristic of the San Marzano tomato is that it does not grow everywhere. Only on the black volcanic soils in the southeast of Mount Vesuvius are the conditions ideal for this tomato variety. In addition, the yield is quite low and the tomato itself is extremely sensitive. These are not good conditions for industrial processing. Fortunately, the Napoletano family, led by the young Giuseppe, has decided to cultivate, process and sell the unique Pelati San Marzano tomato variety. In fact, the ripe and dark red Solania San Marzano dell'Agro Sarnese-Nocerino DOP tomatoes are not only considered extremely tasty, but are also healthy to boot: they are rich in antioxidants and lycopene. This is because San Marzano tomatoes are harvested really ripe for canning. In comparison, fresh, light-coloured tomatoes contain much less antioxidants and lycopene because they are often harvested unripe. Both substances help to protect the body from harmful free radicals. That is why the ripe canned Pelati San Marzano DOP are considered particularly healthy.
